Skip to content MAIDEN (12″ x 12″ hand-cut collage) – The delicate blue landscape symbolises receptivity and creative potential not yet realised; two important aspects that mark this stage in a woman’s life. The bridge symbolises the crossing from non-existence to existence; which is a journey of such magnitude that its only equal in the human experience is death. Finally, the crane symbolises the happiness of youth.
MOTHER (12″ x 12″ hand-cut collage) – The saturated red landscape symbolises the creative power of the mother (whether it be in terms of childrearing, career or artistic pursuit). The kingfisher symbolises abundance, warmth and love; and the rotating handle (upon which the kingfisher sits) and the shower that pours down, illustrates the idea that such abundance, warmth and love radiate out from a woman during this stage of her life and nurtures those around her.
CRONE (12″ x 12″ hand-cut collage) – The pale yellow/green landscape may appear to be in decline, but, in truth it is ripe with the potential for new growth. The owl symbolises the wisdom that can only come with age; yet it is hidden, to symbolise that in modern society, youth and beauty is more highly prized than wisdom, which is, in my opinion, a travesty. The overall sense of decline symbolises the sorrow with which we confront aging in our youth driven culture.
